Police in Sydney are on the lookout for two individuals who attempted to firebomb a beauty salon but ended up setting themselves on fire instead. The incident, which occurred at Sheryne Skin on Burwood Road, took place around 5 am on June 13th. CCTV footage captured the chaotic scene where one of the suspects was seen fleeing with his pants ablaze after their plan backfired dramatically.
The video shows one of the alleged arsonists wearing an orange high-visibility hoodie as he lights accelerant inside the salon. However, instead of causing damage to the building, he inadvertently set himself on fire while trying to escape. This comical yet dangerous situation left law enforcement officials shaking their heads at what they described as “idiot amateurs.
”
Burwood Police Area Command Acting Superintendent Luke Scott expressed concerns about the reckless actions of these individuals: “
Not only are they a danger to the community, they are a danger to themselves.
” He emphasized how such amateurish attempts at arson could have serious consequences, especially considering there were residential premises above the targeted beauty clinic.
“
It’s quite clear from when you watch the CCTV you are not watching professionals; we are dealing with amateurs,
” Superintendent Scott remarked. Despite the humorously failed attempt, he urged the public to assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible. “
And that’s why I’m calling on the community to assist us to take this idiot off the road.”
The salon owner, nurse Sheryne El-Kak, runs a popular business with over 60,000 followers on Instagram. Fortunately, despite the reckless attack, minimal damage was done to her establishment and no injuries were reported. Incredibly, following this initial incident in June, there were two more attempted break-ins at Sheryne Skin in July by unidentified groups.
In response to these subsequent incidents, NSW Police have been actively seeking information from witnesses and analyzing CCTV footage for clues about possible suspects involved in these further attempts. Authorities remain vigilant and determined to bring those responsible for these senseless acts of arson to justice.
