The incident occurred during a cooking segment when a guest made a shocking remark about beating their partner. The inappropriate comment, “Beat the egg like you beat the missus … that’s what I do. Tie her to a tree and beat her with fencing wire,” left viewers and network executives appalled.
“Please accept my most sincere apology for the offense that was caused by the shocking comments made by a guest in the episode.”
Burt, deeply troubled by how such remarks had made it past production, quickly issued an apology. He explained that due to a sudden departure of his show editor, he had to oversee editing responsibilities temporarily. Unfortunately, this oversight led to the offensive comments airing unchecked.
In his statement, Burt expressed his regret: “They were uncalled for, appalling and contrary to everything I believe in.” Despite his efforts to rectify the situation post-broadcast, including contacting Channel 7 to remove the episode from airing again, damage had been done.
“Upon the show airing I contacted Channel 7 to bring the matter to their attention and ensure the episode was removed from their line up so that no-one else could be exposed to the episode.”
