Brisbane super-gran qualifies for Hyrox World Championships

Sue Rogers will compete in the Hyrox World Championships this week.

Sue Rogers, a 62-year-old Australian powerhouse, is not your average grandmother. While many may shy away from the intense challenges of a Hyrox circuit, Sue fearlessly embraces the opportunity to push her limits. Hailing from Brisbane, this mother of three and grandmother of five is currently in Chicago, gearing up to compete in the world championships of the viral fitness sensation, Hyrox. This fitness craze has taken the world by storm, captivating enthusiasts with its exhilarating races and addictive nature.

Hyrox can be likened to the Olympics for everyday gym-goers, encompassing a series of eight 1km runs interspersed with eight diverse fitness stations. From walking lunges to sled pulls and pushes, wall balls, and burpee broad jumps, this demanding circuit is not for the faint-hearted. However, Sue Rogers demonstrated her unwavering determination and prowess when she conquered the event during her previous competition in Brisbane earlier this year. Her exceptional performance secured her the third-fastest qualifying time in her age group (60-64), earning her a well-deserved spot among the 10,000 participants at the championships.

Representing Australia on the global stage, Sue Rogers is living proof that age is merely a number. With a twinkle in her eyes, she shared, “My five grandchildren, with one more on the way, join me in doing push-ups. They chuckle and say, ‘Where’s nana? Oh, she’s working out again.'” For Sue, staying active goes beyond mere physical fitness; it is a commitment to maintaining mobility and strength well into her golden years. “My ‘why’ is to remain agile and robust, perhaps even beyond 100,” she expressed. “I engage in fitness for the sheer joy it brings, the sense of accomplishment, and the connections it fosters. Community and camaraderie are my driving forces; they fuel my passion.”

In addition to her personal pursuits, Sue Rogers generously imparts her expertise as a coach at BFT Everton Park, where she diligently prepares aspiring athletes for their inaugural Hyrox challenge in Sydney come July. Her students speak highly of her, noting, “(Rogers is) incredibly positive, and her infectious energy motivates us all.” As the anticipation builds, Sue eagerly looks forward to her upcoming race on Friday, poised to showcase her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination on the grand stage of the Hyrox World Championships.

Sue Rogers’ remarkable journey serves as a testament to the boundless potential that resides within each individual, transcending age and defying conventional limitations. Her story inspires us to redefine our preconceived notions of fitness and aging, encouraging us to embrace challenges with zest and zeal. As we witness Sue’s tenacity and passion, we are reminded that true strength emanates from within, fueled by a deep-seated purpose and a relentless pursuit of excellence. In a world where barriers are meant to be shattered and boundaries are meant to be surpassed, Sue Rogers stands as a beacon of resilience and fortitude, embodying the essence of unwavering determination and undying spirit.
