Beetaloo Energy Australia Pioneering Milestone Achieved in NT Well Gas Stimulation

Beetaloo Energy Australia has recently achieved a groundbreaking feat with the completion of a hydraulic stimulation campaign on its Carpentaria-5H well in the Beetaloo sub-basin of the Northern Territory. This significant event marks a potential turning point in Australia’s efforts to secure a reliable and scalable gas supply for the eastern seaboard.

The operation, which involved 67 stages of stimulation carried out by industry giant Halliburton, covered an impressive 2955-meter lateral section, making it the most extensive stimulation project ever undertaken in the basin. This milestone solidifies Carpentaria-5H as a key component of Beetaloo Energy’s Carpentaria pilot project, alongside the previously stimulated Carpentaria-2H and 3H wells.

Managing director Alex Underwood expressed his enthusiasm, stating,

“The stimulation of Carpentaria-5H over a 2955-meter horizontal section with 67 stages successfully placed is the longest fracture stimulation completed in the Beetaloo Basin.”

The company’s achievement is not only historic for Beetaloo Energy Australia but also holds significance for the entire basin.

The operation involved impressive pump rates exceeding 100 barrels per minute, fluid intensities reaching 52 barrels per foot, and proppant intensities averaging 2295 pounds per foot. Additionally, it marked Beetaloo Energy’s inaugural 24-hour continuous stimulation effort, achieving more than five stages per day on multiple occasions.

Following the completion of stimulation activities, Beetaloo Energy will proceed with cleaning out the well bore using coiled tubing before initiating flowback operations and allowing for a soak period prior to production testing. A crucial 30-day flow test (IP30) is slated to commence mid-August with results anticipated by September’s end.

This recent accomplishment builds upon several milestones reached by Beetaloo Energy in recent months. A successful $28 million equity raise provided full funding for critical programs like the Carpentaria-5H stimulation and flow test initiative. Notable confidence was shown through directors’ contributions totaling $250,000 post-equity raise.

Furthermore, securing formal consent from traditional landowners to sell gas under Northern Territory regulations represents a pivotal step towards commercialization. The fully funded Carpentaria gas plant stands ready for installation pending final government approvals and boasts substantial processing capacity expected to accommodate gas from various wells during pilot phases.

With looming supply shortages projected in Australia’s east coast market from 2029 onwards according to authorities like Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), developments in areas like Beetaloo Basin are particularly crucial. The region holds immense potential as evidenced by independently certified contingent resources and vast prospective gas reserves across acreage owned by companies like Beetaloo Energy.

Notably positioned atop high calorific gas with ultra-low carbon dioxide content below one percent makes this resource ideal for blending with existing LNG streams—a key factor aligning with tightening import standards set by major Asian markets such as Japan and Korea.

As regulatory approvals are secured and infrastructure partnerships develop—including discussions with APA Group regarding potential pipeline projects—Beetaloo Energy inches closer towards unlocking one of Australia’s most impactful energy resources.

In conclusion, Beetaloo Energy Australia’s recent accomplishments signify not just technological feats but also strategic advancements that could have far-reaching implications on both domestic energy security and international market dynamics alike.
